In a modern days and a older days excel is the key reporting tool.

If you're unfamiliar with Microsoft Excel, then it can often seem somewhat daunting. There are, however, a number of courses available to teach you how to use it and get to grips with it so you'll be much more confident in the future. Our guide looks at some of the typical training modules you'll cover. You can firstly expect an introduction to the specific version of Excel you're using. You can sometimes books courses that look at a certain version, such as 1997, 2003 or 2010.

One really common module on Excel training courses is how to get started with Excel. This includes looking at the key features of worksheets, which form the core components of the program. It will look at how to enter data into the work sheets and give you an opportunity to have a go yourself so you'll have practical experience of using it. You'll also learn more about Excel terminology, looking at things such as cells, rows and columns, which are what make up the worksheets.

It's fairly certain that you will probably cover a module that looks at the different calculations and equations involved in Excel. If you are a beginner, then this will mainly focus on the basics you need to know for everyday use, but there are also intermediate and advanced courses available for those people who want to find out more. Basic things you will cover include how to work the 'autosum' function and how to format data so it can be put simply into a relevant formula.

Once you have created a worksheet, you need to know what to do with it and so you'll more than likely cover a module on this. This includes things such as how to create charts based on your worksheets. It will look at how to get from your inputted formulae to a range of charts once you've completed the equations module. It will also help you fix any mistakes you made entering data through the process of auditing your documents and you'll study the different Excel template worksheets.

One final common module on training courses looks at the different things you can do in Excel while using only one document. You'll look at how to use large worksheets and learn the best ways of manipulating them. You'll also learn about how to set up multiple workbooks and then use them to enhance different aspects of your project. Different courses will naturally feature slightly different modules, but these are some of the most common options you'll find as they cover all the basics.
